Oak

Buzz, snap, crack, wisk, swoosh, thud

The tree was felled.

Branch divorced from trunk, from root.

Mechanical Beaver, teeth knawing wedges,

A strange autumn.

Rings, record both our lives,

Drought and abundance,

Green wood, exposed heart,

Odor of apples fermenting on the orchard floor,

Only fruit flies find their ecstasy in this.

Deep below ground,

Your roots entwine with hickory.

You are  returning to earth…

I am not the only one who grieves.
