Buying Time

we sell our time

to the lowest bidder.

the eternal pondering,

will it be paper or plastic?

gift wrapping  pieces of a life

in the cellophane

of extrinsic control,

while gravity sobs

fertile rains

on the fields of the few.

pay homage to their lesser god

while the ground

you spit on

relishes the moisture.

time is an artifact of perception

and spin,

like stories

about what you would give

to bury those designer shackles,

in anticipation,

like a new shoot

lapping at a waterfall

of light.
