Wild

dead wood

loosens its grip

bark splits

heavy with dew

exposed heartwood

descends

caressed by ribbons

of spanish moss

drops pressing

the spongy leaf litter

twigs light

on the flesh

of the ground

life seethes

below earth’s skin

light sifted

in undulating shadow

out of fire

woman is born

holding Hades’ gaze

Persephone returns

.
