Ascent

bark and bared belly

an articulated slither

to the plumb-line canopy

a pinpoint singularity

beyond chaotic debris

.

the fluid opposition

to grasp of gravity

while tunnels and tangles

side wind distraction

at the root

.

tendril tethered

congruent with vine

a fierce refusal

to rest in the palm

of artificial fate

.

Ink on Elk skin I drew a few years ago. The drum was made by a member of the Mohegan Tribe.
